Unbelievable. We already have a sub-$1000 PC with hardware DVD and a monitor. Who would have thought it six months ago. Too bad it's not CUBE. Maybe the price of ZiVA should be lowered in response to competition. A.B., remember the lesson you learned in China last year?

compression of full-motion digital video for consumer electronics,
communications and computer applications.

HARDWARE DESIGN

Several openings for either digital and/or analog/RF hardware design
engineers. Develop products and reference designs that include C-Cube
chips, and gain experience in one or more of:

* QAM, QPSK, VSB, Modems
* IEEE1394, IEEE1284, 10BaseT
* RISC Processors
* Graphics, video, audio
* Cable, Satellite, ADSL, fiber, ATM networks
* RF/Analog filters, mixers, tuners etc.
* Verilog based FPGA design

Candidates must have a BS in EE, and have strong communications and
problem solving skills. For digital design positions experience with
Verilog or VHDL languages, FPGAs, Microprocessors, terminations, and
synchronization are valued. For analog/RF positions experience with
PLLs, amplifiers, discrete filters, SAW filters, mixers, oscillators,
NTSC/PAL video, satellites, and cable TV are valued. For all
positions experience with C programming, UL/FCC regulations, and high
volume manufacturing are valued.

Most of the sub-$1,000 machines come with a CD-ROM drive. This DVD PC is obviously a bare-bones machine, but others should rise to meet the challenge. They are predicting the new PCs will increase the current number of PCs in homes from the current 40% of all households to at least 50%. Here's an LA Times article if you are interested: latimes.com
