This is the second Java NC-related setback Corel has faced. In August, it bagged plans to release an office suite of applications written entirely in Java. At the time, the company cited poor performance and a stripped-down feature set as the reasons.

In truth, they don't have the foggiest idea about how to develop object-oriented software in Java or anything else and they have wasted shareholders money training their in-house staff on the basics of said process and said tools. They are clearly a chip of the Novel block in terms of poor planning and even worse execution. Maintaining old technology is apparently the limit of their technical expertise. Why is it that Applix gets rave reviews and we haven't heard them blaming their own problems on Java. By the time Corel wakes up to the crystal clear fact that they are too incompetent to develop anything having anything to do with modern software or hardware, Lotus' eSuite and Applix will be several lightyears ahead of them. Step one of Corel's recovery is to stop blaming others for their own problems.
