With populations in rich countries stabilizing or falling, the main challenge would be in developing countries.

It would be interesting to see someone try to convince the bottom 80% of the world's population that they aren't entitled to get a bit closer to the standard of living enjoyed by the top 20%.

China suspends export of diesel fuel amid shortage

SHANGHAI

China's economic planning agency says it is suspending exports of diesel fuel to help counter shortages likely to worsen during the peak summer months, as the country endures widespread power shortages.

The National Development and Reform Commission on Friday urged oil companies to help "maintain social stability and promote economic development" by increasing refinery output and stepping up new projects to ensure stable supplies.

It said roadways, cities, farmers and public utilities should receive priority. The suspension of diesel shipments does not, however, apply to the territories of Hong Kong and Macau.
