Friday January 16, 2:23 pm Eastern Time Company Press Release PREMIS Corporation Announces General Availability of PREMIS OpenEnterprise at NRF MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 16, 1998--PREMIS Corporation (NASDAQ: PMIS - news) announces the general availability of the PREMIS OpenEnterprise 2.0 suite of retail management applications. This enterprisewide suite includes three applications: OpenStore - a comprehensive in-store point of sale and back office system, OpenOffice - an integrated head office retail management system and OpenNet - a unified family of communications and networking products to expand headquarters operations out to the store. The release of OpenEnterprise marks a major milestone for PREMIS. ''Years of research and development have resulted in a solution with advanced functionality and extraordinary flexibility, characteristics not found in most retail solutions today,'' says Fritz Biermeier, President and CEO of PREMIS Corporation. ''OpenEnterprise provides retailers all the benefits of a custom developed solution in a standard application. PREMIS was able to accomplish this by developing a base framework for the application. This framework provides the flexibility needed to add functionality without impacting the underlying architecture - greatly simplifying future additions or modifications to the application.'' PREMIS used state-of-the-art design tools throughout the development of this client/server, Windows NT-based solution. The resulting object-oriented design provides: Configurability - Retailers can easily design the appearance of the POS screen to reflect their own corporate identity. The POS workflow can also be easily modified, enabling the system to adapt to varying retail environments rather than forcing each retail environment to adapt to the system. Extensibility - The generic object-oriented framework allows functionality to be easily added or modified as extensions of the base retail application. This use of a generic framework leverages prior development efforts and knowledge which in turn greatly reduces time to market for enhancements and new applications. Flexibility - Users will benefit from the system's flexibility when they need to extract key information. OpenEnterprise provides extensive reporting and drill down capabilities, down to the SKU level. And the ease with which this data is gathered ensures end-users, not IS resources, can easily create their own queries, run reports and complete audit tasks. Maintainability - Because of the applications forward-thinking design, the system is easily maintained. Extensions or modifications are added without disrupting existing functionality. If a store network fails, the POS system remains functional and the on-line recovery is completely transparent to the user. Distributed networks of store systems are easily supported through a central location. The modular design of OpenEnterprise enables retailers to create their own solutions by implementing only the modules they need today. As retailers needs change, additional modules are added with little or no disruption to the existing system. Customer input throughout the development process has helped shape the OpenEnterprise suite and will continue to do so in future standard releases. PREMIS customers involved with the development and testing of OpenStore included Cotton Ginny while Tie Rack Ltd. and Strouds were involved with the OpenOffice application. While combining OpenStore, OpenNet, and OpenOffice to create an integrated solution provides significant benefits to retailers, they also can implement both OpenStore and OpenOffice as stand-alone systems or interface either applications with existing systems. PREMIS will be demonstrating the OpenEnterprise suite at the National Retail Federation Conference in booth No. 245, January 18-21 in New York. PREMIS Corporation develops, markets and supports a line of enterprisewide retail automation solutions to meet the information needs of multi-store specialty and general merchandise retailing chains. PREMIS retail applications include a comprehensive in-store point of sale and back office system, a unified family of communications and networking products to expand headquarters operations out to the store and an integrated head office retail management system.
