I had to go read up a bit on this, to distinguish Z-RAM from eDRAM. Far from taking over the world, it's not clear that Z-RAM ever went into production on anything. Confusingly, Wikipedia cites the eetimes article in stating Innovative Silicon was closed on June 29, 2010. en.wikipedia.org eDRAM seems to have done a little better, being used in Wii and Xbox processors apparently, and is also seems to be available in some ARM designs. The only large-scale processor using it for what would seem to me to be the obvious application, level-3 cache, is IBM's Power7. I guess the additional process requirements are too much compared to maybe system-on-package alternatives. It does seem to have a niche in smaller-scale embedded apps, though.
