It would be easier to digest (IMHO) if it were a chart of monthly purchases, rather than cumulative (although the cumulative total is nice to know as well).

As the recession bottomed out and business profits started picking up (all those layoffs do help) it makes pretty good sense that companies might view depressed stocks as more attractive than expanding production while demand is still depressed. But stock prices also increased during the same period, and the rate of purchase still looks pretty high. Would be nice to see that curve along with profits, stock prices, and R&D/cap ex.

Of course it would also be nice to see historically how stock repurchases become owner/employee compensation.
