Al, News, Post says Magellan seen as well-positioned Magellan Aerospace Corp MAL Shares issued Nov 13 close $9.80 Mon 17 Nov 97 In the News Buy & Sell columnist Sonita Horvitch says in her quarterly roundtable that Edward Macklin, a portfolio manager at Bolton Tremblay, says he does not think the North American economies are at terrible risk from the Asian meltdown. Mr Macklin says that growth, especially in Canada, will continue. He says the Canadian domestic economy has been picking up quite rapidly this year. His current favourite stock picks include Magellan Aerospace, a core holding. Mr Macklin says that this company is benefiting from outsourcing and it is positioned extremely well with a recapitalized, strong balance sheet, strong management and about 45 per-cent excess capacity. Overall, Mr Macklin says that analysts are typically optimistic, especially at the start of a calendar year, and they work the numbers down as the year progresses. He says that at Bolton Tremblay, he and his associates have been cautious on stocks this year and have been reducing the equity exposure, primarily on the domestic side. Hi Al, Newcrest crossed a large block here today @ 9.30. I don't know why yet but I see this as a great positive for this stock.
