Illinois Lawmakers May Raise Own Pay While Cutting Others'

FOX Chicago News

Chicago - Some of the top lawmakers in Springfield are working on a plan to give themselves a pay raise at the same time they are raising taxes and cutting pay and benefits for state workers.

The Illinois Statehouse News reports that the Senate Executive Committee has passed a bill to give the chairmen of house and senate committees pay raises of as much as 47 percent.

The same bill would require other lawmakers and employees of the general assembly to take 12 furlough days to help balance the state budget.
