Hi Glenn, you are right that the open interest would go up 10 if I bought 10 puts...someone else may have sold 100 puts(to open) and now the open interest is 110, but most of the open interest is on shorting the put...ie the bet is being placed that the stock will go up... Carmine, I know shorting the put or writiing naked puts (the same thing) is typically my choice. I really have no idea what the recent action has been. I know I closed some 50 strike puts I wrote and sold 30s in their place. So I feel 30 is "safe" although I have been wrong recently. I do not believe there is a way to know from OI if the puts are long or short. If there is, I would love to know how one knows. Glenn
