The killer for the Volt is you still have to buy gas. And not just a LITTLE gas. Because half the time, that's how you're getting where you're going.

Totally defeats the purpose of buying an electric car. As pointed out in one of the reviews, it is going to get pretty damned old plugging it in and unplugging it, DAILY, just to get 25 miles of electric use.

Not worth the hassle for most people. In the end, they'll end up driving it on gasoline.

"It said it would be a good second car in urban area if it is in "a temperate climate."

Maybe...a third car for many...now factor the admittedly lower purchase price into a family's transportation total cost of ownership.
