I use Telus DSL in Alberta, it's 15 Mb/s, I am getting the 25 Mb/s in a week or so. My cap is 250 GB, but I have not come near that, even though I watch a lot of online video, from Netflix and other sources.

My speed is fast, and I am really happy with it. Rare that there is downtime. If I do have down time, I can log on with dial-up networking, for 20 hours per month free. Only had to use that once for a few hours when my DSL went out for a few hours.

Telus DSL gives you free dial-up networking for free. I use a USB US Robotics modem.

Been a TELUS DSL customer for 11 years. Before that I was Shaw Cable.

Dad was a 30yr+ employee - still uses Bell DSL today.

Anyways, I posted that I splintered off my services and use Teksavvy for DSL and Phone.

Message 27194370

First, I was against going with the home phone with Rogers based on the added "fee" (they came up with some mumbo jumbo $4.95 sounding fee). With Tek I am paying the "BAND PRICE" plus features. With tax $38.75.

I only wanted 2 features:
a) Call Answer ($3 have the vanilla which is sufficient);
b) Visual Call Waiting ($9) - gives you Call Display; Call Waiting PLUS when you are talking on the phone, the number of who is calling you displays on the handset (not just a beep).

To get Visual Call Waiting was going to be hard with most companies but Tek did it and that is what I got.

For long distance I opted to go with Yak. 3.5cents/minute; calling card (cheaper to use that than a pay phone if I for some reason forget it - or for wife who doesn't have a cell) and ZERO monthly (BS) LD usage fees. Just got my recent Yak bill - biggest in years - $4.95. Partly due to chatting with the hotel manager for an hour in NC. Around the middle of June I will buy the Skype 1 month subscription for unlimited calling to phones from my PC during our trip to NC. $2.95CA (use your CA$ CC!). Something like 50 cents to make a local call at the hotel (some charge/some don't).

Now then --- riddle me this --- you are with Rogers - explain the internet service with torrents as I knew when I was with them years ago they prevented uploading (was getting 0 kbps). Sometimes it would work when you have it off for a while but then would "stop".

Has something changed with them? Or are you not using torrents? Bandwidth was one problem but the torrents was a huge issue for me.

I agree with you though in principle. Knowing how people hate Rogers (many!) Bell has the prime opportunity to be the good guy. Yet they are screwing people hand over fist. Years ago a friend who had satellite wanted to RENT a Bell PVR - they told him he had to buy it because he wasn't a new customer or something. Horse***t!

But I even disagree with Rogers --- if you give me 60 or 80 or 125GB - let me use it HOW I PLEASE. Blocking ports and scrambling certain data to me is plain wrong. If I want it for VoiP, or Torrents or anything - let me use it. Sadly both them and Bell are in bed together - collusion all around.

Cheers!
Blake
