Winston,(On topic see below) I try to be reasonable about this, like P.J. O'rourke says "nobody wants to walk to work", including me. In fact I build houses right now, and when my hippie friends (I love my hippie friends) complain about contractors and developers I always jokingly ask "I see, do you live in a TeePee?"

Great video by the way.

Half of the energy used is used by 1/7 of the worlds population.

US Population / World Population =

308,745,538/6,920,000,000=0.0446

US = 4.5% of world population... uses 25% of the world's energy. Spelling manor 123 rooms and 56,500 square feet. Bill Gate's home 66,000 sq ft. Last I looked Sting... has 7 mansions.

This model does not make sense. We need to have alternatives that make cold hard sense, and if this seems hippie, remember who created the personal computer business.

On topic part:

We are going to need to get smarter. Copenhagen Wheel:

Right now I have a design for an improved bicycle pedal that I think will yield a 30-50% increase in efficiency. (I have a degree in design.) If it works, and I know it will, along with the Copenhagen wheel, a 10 mile ride with groceries would be easy for almost anyone.

I'm at a loss about how to proceed to prototyping it. I will need a little help with specifics of the design, in particular it uses a small hydraulic unit. Hydraulic controls are becoming common on bicycles currently.

I'm a total bike nut, have been since I was 16, but unlike most bike nuts my true loves are "utility" bikes, which are more common in Europe. I want some money out of this but I really don't want much. Mostly just want more people to ride.

About 5 years ago my girlfriend and I were walking in her neighbor hood. She remarked that she really didn't know any of her neighbors. I was thinking "we know people all around the world now due to the net, but we don't know our neighbors."

I thought it was a no brainer.

I went home and designed a site I called Network Neighborhood. I tried to get my coder friends interested in it, but was unsuccessful. It's just beyond the scope of my talents. I think it's a billion dollar idea.

I currently have a great idea for an app. The app itself is trivial, but it will need some back end coding, servers and a database. Monday I'll be going to a iOS SIG but truthfully I'm not sure I have the time and money to pull off my idea which will work for sure.

Users sign up for free, app is free. They only pay ($5) or so when they need to USE the service. I'd estimate off the top of my head 150 million American's need the service, it's a no brainer, none at all, and about 50,000 a day might use it.

Again I want some money out of this but I really don't want much.

I also have two ideas for consumer goods. One I'm testing at this time I'll probably start retailing it on Amazon this year.
