Even without the green revolution his predictions would have been to dire. And note he didn't say "unless we come up with some improvement people will starve" he said the battle was already over, that hundreds of millions of people will starve to death no matter what we did and that "at this late date nothing can prevent a substantial increase in the world death rate..."
