OFF TOPIC Veritas, I agree with you 100%. Internet freedom in general has its cost, as anyone who belongs to a Usenet group will attest. I have on several occasions heard reports of death threats on people making unpopular posts, and the flames often have no relationship to reality. SI seems a little better than some, at least as to the flames, but the finger-pointing, personal attacks, etc., are still sometimes wearying. This thread is unusual because of the degree of participation by the company management. I appreciate this very much, by the way, since it exposes them to a lot of criticism, some possibly valid and some possibly preposterous, that they woudn't have to hear otherwise. You guys must have thick skin! But we appreciate the effort a LOT. Mostly, though, the actual identities of poster is, and should be, entirely irrelevant. The best posts are either factual or opinion based on stated facts. If I see a factual assertion, I consider it nearly baseless rumor unless I see verification. If it is opinion, I consider the explicit reasoning and, if the person has made a number of previous posts, the intelligence of those posts (I'm afraid that leaves me pretty low on the totem pole as far as PeakSoft goes, oh well, at least I'm an actual stockholder -- believe it or not, I make very useful contributions to some threads). If a person chooses to identify himself, and that is helpful to understanding or believing his statements (as is peculiarly appropriate to this group), well and good. But otherwise, it is better to leave personalities completely out of the mix.
