"False, or at least mostly false."

Nonsense Tim. It is the truth.

"the Democrats much more than the Republicans, counting the whole history of both parties"

Tim, this is only true if you want to include a time period before the last 5 decades. Things have changed. A lot.

"Meanwhile the support of official racial discrimination from the government (far more odious than private discrimination) in recent decades has mostly been from the left"

I challenge the idea it is far more odious. Both are bad. And even at its worse, official discrimination is not on the same scale as private. At worst, it means that a particular individual might not get into a college or university of his or her choice. While not ideal, that is very different from not being able to get into a college or university at all. Higher education needs to have a diverse student body. It is important in a number of ways. They would be doing a dis-service to their students if they didn't do it. Which is why TAMU got serious about it under Gates and his immediate predecessor. It had been a long time since TAMU actively discriminated against minorities. But the reputation remained. Qualified minorities just wouldn't apply, so they started offering incentives. And it is still far from perfect, the undergrads are still mainly white. Unlike the grads, which are from all over the world. I was often the only American in many of my classes, especially in the EE ones.

Still, it isn't an ideal situation. But, at least so far, it seems to be the only one that works even halfway.
