Hard to imagine. Prior to its BK, GM was the poster child of rigid financial culture. Almost all of their bad decisions were because management demanded short term economic gain. Which is why GM engineers developed so much wonderful technology that Japanese companies wound up exploiting.

That is why Chrysler did so well under Iaccoca. Lee was willing to experiment, while Ford and GM were afraid to. Sadly, Chrysler was in such bad shape, there were pretty serious limits to what they could experiment with...
