Joan:

Some where I read that on Wed, Japanese banks will announce their earnings (losses) and officially open their current balance sheets. They can have acceptable capital levels in their balance sheets only if there is capital infusion by the Japanese Govt.

Joan, that is when the first few Banks in Japan report their quarterly earnings. Banks in Japan count as assets the value of stock in their portofolio, and they have to mark the book to market on that day. If they do not have (due to price falling in Tokyo) 8% net they arenot allowed by the Bank of International settlements" to act in international transfers of funds (and few other international banking activities). In essence, they are declared "credit risks".
