Geez! This is snowballing. The morass is growing and pulling more people in. I actually think there is a gene that makes it possible for human beings to generate this kind of morass, and much more. The scary part is that I think all human beings have this capability, where some just are more efficient morass generators than others. I have worked with a few people who were very accomplished at this. It always leads to the same result: mindlessness and the ensuing mayhem. It is amazing to see a "room" full of intelligent, generous, freindly, knowledgeable and experienced people are reduced so quickly into...well, you can fill in the blank here. Let me just say that thoughtfullness and consideration and respect and *perspective* are not a part of this picture. Who knows? If you are not careful, the morass may pull you in too! ;) I visualize morass as a very deep, dark, ugly pool of unsightly "ooze" on the floor that people become stuck in. Most do not know it is there, so they step into it. Some actually run right for it and jump in, as though they knew it was there all along and it is home to them. There are still some who attempt to skirt the edge without being pullled in. There is where I find you have to dance allot to keep from being pulled in. This is because morass has the ability to reach out when you are not prepared and try to pull you in. And then there is the rest who stop in there travel, look at the spectacle that they have come across, shake their head, and continue on. I am tempted to start an alternative thread that can be used to weather this disappointing period of time: "Idea of the Day: the Hideout", or some such thread where the rest of us can continue our much more reasoned conversation about the markets without the diversion of this thunderstorm that came our way. Once the emotions die down, then we can return when it is "safe". Another possability is for us folks who are not stuck in the morass to continue our conversation as though nothing has happened. I do not know if this will work though. Bob Graham
