Nothing partisan about noting he's not a small government guy.

"We've debated among ourselves what role the immigration and the things that Sheriff Joe is doing, for instance, should have in the movement," says Rob Gaudet, national coordinator for the Tea Party Patriots. "In the end, we took the stand that being here illegally affects the marketplace and the availability of jobs."

So they have mixed opinions about illegal immigration, but decided they where against it more than for it. That's not exactly unusual, its shared in common with Arpaio (except he doesn't have any mixed feelings), but also with a majority of the country. Arpaio is also more generally against immigration, he just can't do much about the legal part of it. The tea party isn't a highly anti-immigrant group. Even anti-illegal immigration, while common among their members, is not one of their core ideas or one that distinguishes them.

I bet they have plenty of other things in common with Arpaio, I understand that he wears clothes, and so do most tea party supporters...

And even if he did share their views. If his main point was not aggressive policing, and being anti-immigration, but was shirnking the growth of the federal government, that wouldn't be very meainginful. Unlikeable, corrupt, and/or thuggish people support all different sorts of political groups. Finding one isn't even a "dog bytes man" story. Its more common than that. Its more like a "the sun rose this morning" story.
