1 - Lots of things could be caused by global warming. The claims go far beyond what is realistic, and also go so far as to be meaningless in terms of using them as signs of global warming (practically everything has been linked by someone to global warming) but warming should have some effects beyond higher readings on thermometers.

2 - We don't even know for certain that we are seeing bigger and more severe storms. The records are very incomplete, and some of the modern record points in the other direction.
