BD, you're missing my point. Imagine a Nokia that would not have focused so much energy on trying to preserve GSM, steal CDMA, destroy Qcom and had instead partnered/cooperated with the best companies of the day to build high speed networks and develop a great smart device years before Apple even had an IPod. This was all possible for them.

It is not just internet speed that makes a good hand-held computing device.

I agree. I added a wifi SD card to a Palm OS handheld way back in the day and it wasn't really any faster for web browsing than my Treo 600 running on 1X. Either the processors or the software were not capable of rendering html any faster-- the download speeds were not the bottleneck.
