Do you even believe that yourself?

EVERYTHING about the iPhone was the interface. It could have been GPRS only and still be a hit in the whole world.

Going for a worldwide market they had to go the GSM route - not the Betamax one.

btw how fast is EVDO (rev x) compared to HSDPA nowadays?

Voice and data at the same time - still a problem?

LTE is not a CDMA route, right? QCOM IPR aside.

And as an early adopter and a fan of their interface - my first couple of Macs are from the 80:ies, I have to say that I don't think Android would exist without the first iPhone.

Well if you are making the case that an EDGE-only iPhone would have a hard time competing in today's smartphone market, I completely agree. But in 2008, the iPhone was doing fine against the competition despite spotting them a whole G.
