Well, the hallmark of embedded is that some designs stick around until parts can't be sourced any more. I've worked on a lot of projects which were in panic mode because key components had a final buy issued on them and they were caught flat-footed. And they always seem to be caught flat-footed despite years of warning...

Got caught up in some web projects. I have become a True Believer in the power of LAMP stacks and web apps. They are cross-platform, scalable and can run on almost everything these days. There is a major paradigm shift in the making as the Internet moves from a server/client architecture to a peer to peer, fully distributed model that can reach down to very small machines.

Instructions sets don't matter any more. It is all about functionality per dollar. And that is a huge advantage for ARM.
