I think at some point the reality of bad rhetoric/policy will change the current outlook towards nuclear power. It seems like everything else - a crisis is needed to bring down the barriers to reason. The new abundance of natural gas should delay this reality for a good while. Perhaps new technology will emerge during this natural gas window the removes much of the angst.
