From Communication Daily and Newspage: Inmarsat proposal put off for 2 years....

"Europe, meanwhile, agreed to put off its proposal to allocate bands used by GPS to Inmarsat and other mobile satellite service (MSS) operators on shared basis until WRC-99. U.S. vigorously opposed idea because engineers feared Inmarsat's mobile satellites would interfere with weak navigation signal used for safety services. Conference resolved to find way to protect GPS -- and other navigation satellites -- and requested that sharing studies be completed to determine feasibility of MSS/GPS sharing. "

This is a favorable outcome for GPS users.
