Amazon Longer Than Nile River, Scientists Say

John Roach
for National Geographic News

June 18, 2007

The Amazon River, not the Nile, is the longest in the world, a team of Brazilian scientists claims.

The scientists claim to have traced the river's source to a snow-capped mountain in southern Peru, adding a new twist in the swirling debate over the longest river label.

The Amazon is considered the world's largest river by volume, but scientists have believed it is slightly shorter than Africa's Nile.

The Brazilian scientists' 14-day expedition extended the Amazon's length by about 176 miles (284 kilometers), making it 65 miles (105 kilometers) longer than the Nile.

According to the team's results, which have not been published, the Amazon is 4,225 miles (6,800 kilometers) long. The Nile stretches 4,160 miles (6,695 kilometers).

Your geography is correct, at least. You're only wrong about almost everything else. ;-)

It is possible.

Let's just say Apple has two disastrous quarters, growth in the iPhone slows to 45%, growth in Macs slows to 15%, and growth in iPads doesn't live up to expectations and they only capture 80% of the pad market.

Let's just say a complete disaster, quarterly revenue growth plummets from 82.70% to 41%.

That would probably crush their P/E down well below losers like Dell and Acer, assuming their stock price stayed the same.

???

It just doesn't seem likely to me, given Apple sells 59% of it's products overseas and in burgeoning markets like China, but heck Apple has never been the kind of company that investors understand. So I think it's quite possible Apple might take a dive.

Not probable though... without a market crash. Very bizzare. If a start up posted 1/2 the growth Apple has sustained quarter after quarter they'd have a P/E in the stratosphere.

LNKD P/E = 1,318.21 !!!

Now THAT is a respectable P/E... !!!

He he. Just jokin' around but heck... LNKD has quarterly revenue growth that kills 110.10%!!! Way more than Apple at 82.70%.

Somebody is thinking that LNKD is going to monetize the hell out of that business. Direct ads?

Social networks are big. There are hundreds of them, all monetizing the heck out of their social network information.

en.wikipedia.org

All of them are "monetizing" like mad...

there are many ways they can monetize...

ads
ads

ads

Apple could never do this... sell ads?

And then the barriers to competition are great...

That's why pointy hairdoo geeks only start about 5 or 10 per day.

Anyway just jokin' around. A little frustrated here by the irrational stock market. I wish it would be more rational. On the other hand irrationality is sometimes very profitable if one understands it. I think I would like to get out of Apple too, but I wanna make another $20 a share at least, and the Pros could not be wrong:

aaplinvestors.net

could they?

Sigh. What should I go with? rational or irrational?
