"While it will add 16M to the insurance company membership roles, it also adds 16M to the government dole."

Yes. So? Don't those on the dole as you call it, use services and goods from private industry?

"In addition, it imposes some horrendous financial burdens on both insurance companies AND businesses at large."

Oh, right. Requiring that businesses do things to avoid fraud is a horrendous burden. Better just to hand the money over, no strings attached. Like the Bush administration did.

There is a difference between being pro-business and allowing businesses to loot the treasury.

"They were supposed to be held to account at arms length"

Arms length wasn't working. It was tried. All we got were lies and mis-information. Granted, you seem to be ok with lies and misinformation as long as the "right" people do it...

"Agree, and by ANY reasonable metric BP EXCEEDED its responsibility."

Not quite. But still, they weren't doing it until they were forced. Even now, it is beginning to look as if the damage will be very long term.

"There is no lasting impact from the spill itself"

Only if you get all of your info from BP. There are vast areas on the bottom of the Gulf that are anaerobic due to the spill. There is none of the animal life that was there before. And that has an impact on the whole ecosystem. So your term "no lasting impact" is so erroneous as to be laughable. If it wasn't so sad and ill-informed...
