"With the iPad, however, I find that I no longer need my laptop or smartphone very often"

You don't need a tablet, you need an iPad. There's a difference. I wouldn't have any use for a tablet, but there are a lot of fun things I could do with an iPad. No way it replaces my smartphone though.

Why not make the pad itself a phone & put on the same plan ? Instant connect to anyone else on there's too ,maybe with voice command /recognition option.

Or with pad turned on browsing u could have a bluetooth headset & be making/recieving calls from too ? But voice command would be nice :

On computer , call the Wife please ?

Not as technical as the rest but this might be possible too ? Another way for networks to charge for plans plus video conferencing as well when feature is turned on .

* Still not sure if this planned $12Bil new Foxconn plant
for AAPL production in Brazil was new news ?

No one on the Apple thread seemed or wanted to notice this post ( such sensitive crew ) but is an incredibly huge investment & facility ... unimaginably large, what is a very significant investment from China :
