However """""You'll be hard pressed to find an analog network to talk on with "Motorola's big analog "brick" cellphone" or their's or RIM's BlackBerry text pagers introduced in 1999 which operated on DataTAC or ARDIS 1G networks, or find a smartphone that will play a VHS movie and a Palm PDA touch- screen with Microsoft Pocket PC OS instead of 16-bit or 32-bit Palm OS is a pretty rare bird. Did HTC, a long time close Microsoft partner, ever make one?"""" The whole point I replied to LARSA's points about "GPRS/EDGE text only cellphone" was exactly what you tried to debate me about. I can not find those old days stuffs anymore even I intend to. The whole telcom. industry is moving ahead with or without EDGE or CDMA. To wrote "GPRS/EDGE text only cellphone is good enough" was totally ignoring the real world. GSM/GPRS/EDGE cell phone will be like "Motorola's analog "brick" cellphone in the next 5 to 10 years if not sooner. GSM side never considered these GPRS/EDGE networks as a long term solution in the first place. You and I knew the history. GSM device vendors called these networks - "2.5G" or "2.75G" or "3G" while they had the 2G going but no true 3G - WCDMA networks available then. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ """I guess I best throw away my relatively new N8, eh, or better yet, maybe you should figure out what today's Nokia smartphones do that others don't?""" Somehow you are showing me a "capacitative" touch screen phone that is supposed to show up at 2007 time frame along with IPhone instead of 2010 time frame. I do not follow Nokia phone. When is the first Nokia phone with a "capacitative" touch screen? I wrote in my previous post that I think that function is a game differentiator then besises IPhone's better OS and UI. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ """"What the heck is a GPRS/EDGE "text only" cell phone?"""" Please go read LARSA's original posts. He wrote the world only needed "GPRS/EDGE" and "text only" cellphone. In fact seldom people call any more. That is why I replied with "Motorola's Alpha-nummeric" text paging is as good as what he tried to point out. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ It took too much time to reply your points. """"" Where CDMA2000 or 3GSM isn't implemented, and that's still a big chunk of the world's terrestrial geography, one doesn't need anything more than a GSM or GSM/GPRS/EDGE mobile device to communicate wirelessly and cost effectively on a plan to fit the users pocketbook."""""""" I relied to you the same reply to I wrote to LARSA. Moto's analog phone plus Moto's alpha-numermic text paging can do just as well without GSM/GPRS/EDGE and all CDMA networks combined if the technological advancements stop right at 1G time plus all the items I listed earlier. So if technology kept advancing, GPRS/EDGE/CDMA networks in the future will be as useless as our debate right now. :-)
