I've been experimenting with Microsoft Standalone System Sweeper. It's for removing malicious code from a system that is so compromised it won't start.

Download the tool for the type of system infected, 32-Bit or 64-Bit, and create a bootable media: USB, CD, or .ISO.

When using the bootable media, the MSSS first downloads updates, then examines your system. It appears to scan all volumes on all available drives. If it finds something it suspects, it issues a warning immediately. Microsoft says the full scan can take hours, but on my system it took about 70 minutes.

Download from connect.microsoft.com

Hint: Make the MSSS CD before your system gets infected. It's kinda tough afterward.

Cheers, PW.

P.S. This is a Beta version. It has an "interesting" appearance: A Classic XP Window on a Vista Desktop background, appearing after Windows 7 boot graphics.
