The Shoreham Nuclear Power Plant was built in the late 1970s and early 1980s on Long Island. Governor (Mario) Cuomo closed it down after it was constructed and tested even though it had an approved NRC evacuation plan. Long Island residents are still paying for that unused power plant that was closed in 1989.
