yes,austin....good old asutin...
when I go to National professional meetings with Info. technology or CASA, or give a speech somewhere etc. I say I'm from austin now and we both laugh.
Austin has a repretation for some of the worst Information Systems in the world.....It's a real joke....
Over lunch or dinner we try to figure it out...
It has allot to do with inbreeding, hackers(not professionals),
and engineers for a long time controlled the I/S here.
I moved here 4 yrs ago and I couldn't beleive what I found.
There are changes but it's got a long way to go to catch up...
of course you said you didn't need I/S which means no vendors, customers or business processes<ggg>

I gave speeches here for decades at the I/S and APICS chapters.
I just thought that what I was being told wasn't representaive...but, it is...
Austin the Information Technology pit of the USA.
Hackers and Engineers have controlled to long...
it's happening....I/S Directors that are more concerned with truely
increasing the quality of the business and mfg'ing processes(customers/company/vendors) while drastically reducing cost and cycle times instead to just ramming a bunch of technology down user's throats are moving in.
Quite frankly DEll had a terrible start but, they did realized that hackers and engineers had ruined their I/S effort and began to try to import better I/S talent.... they started changing in 1993-4 but
still have problems they know need addressing. At least they are trying to do something about it.
good old Austin.....I/S armpit of the world<gggg>

Of course you made my point..you are a class A design engr. and instead of giving us the benefit of impartial knowledge in this area on cpq and dell.
even if it's a positive on cpq or negative on dell...
instead of this inforamtion you are expert in, you argue about stuff you are a neophyte in.....
Meathead...you cannot just read a book or have a idea on brain surgery and then take a scapel and perform surgery..it doesn't work that way.
