Then most of them, in a certain sense perhaps all of them, fail, often miserably so.

CATO has certain political ideas it supports. So do you. So does Obama, so does just about everyone. If you agrees with those political ideas, you would be more likely to use them as a source, but their arguments remain just as valid (which is not the same as saying their conclusions are correct), if you disagree. If we are going to just shut out any arguments from people we disagree with, then there isn't much point in having political conversations.
