Maybe I'm biased here, but giving people money won't solve the problem. It will just create dependency and a sense of entitlement.

Better to RE-ALLOCATE resources to enable people to make alternative economic choices to cutting down forested land.

Also better to either regulate, or shine a political and media light, upon those corporations who facilitate the exploitation and destruction of rain forest (like palm oil consumers who incenitivize the destruction of rain forest in Indonesia.. etc).

I want to help people to help themselves, not make them dependent upon charity.

Keep Poor From Cutting Trees

Hang on a bit... Isn't it the platform of the green establishment to advocate replacing fossil fuels with renewable energy, and when you examine their figures as to how to do this there is a huge contribution from biomass and the major "renewable" portion of that biomass is wood and wood products!

Just how do you use wood as a fuel without cutting down trees?

Haiti gets 80% of its energy requirements from "renewables". Of that 5% is hydro and 75% wood burned for cooking and charcoal. 95% of their forests are not only denuded, but now they are digging up tree roots left by earlier loggers to burn!

Their environment is a disaster, but they still have one of the best "green" credentials in regards to the proportion of non-renewable to renewable energy anywhere in the world. Unfortunately, population pressures and the demand for this "renewable" energy means nothing can grow now and therefore it is no longer renewable. They don't need money; they need coal!

Just think; if the green, AWG movement get their way the whole world will be like Haiti!
