Those groups of countries were skyrocketing then. China would have been just a family-size Japan. Most likely would be banded together with the so-called 'west'. But China raises together with rest of Asia, LATAM and Africa. post WW II? Those groups of countries were skyrocketing then. Why does this matter. Yes, it matters a lot. The ego. That national feeling of greatness that governing elites sell to their populaces. Germans, French, Japanese had this feeling of not only growing rich, but their egos boosted as the 'West'. A certain entity that gave them a feeling of greatness and proud. China, in the other hand, and this is very important, gets rich among a bunch of God Forsaken rag bag of negroes and Latinos!! This is not good for that sense of greatness a country needs to sell to their populaces. The post WWII, 'West', were sending rockets to space! They exploded huge bombs with great pyrotechnic effect. They had fast jet planes. They had pop culture, people wearing blue jens, listening to the music, drinking soft drinks and using the USD as world money. This is an effect that China raise does not have. See what I mean? China does not project China trade mark abroad. There is no greatness, neither spurious feeling of being big. Note also the Chinese abroad cannot count with that culture halo the 'West' had in their hayday. While the US had the World Bank, doling out money for countries that behaved well, China has to go abroad and dig with their own hands the materials they need. While the so called 'West' was doling out money left and right by the wheel barrow load to subsidize uneconomic agriculture for food self sufficiency, China needs more and more the food from other countries.
