william, my point about drams is that txn isn't this great, all encompassing manufacturer that some were saying it was. it isn't.

a much better comparison to txn is xlnx. they have had no eps growth in 1.5 years. how many different designs do they have?

Regarding the number of DRAM chip designs, here are the ones
that TI sells:

I count 42.

Note that this doesn't include SDRAM, or SGRAM.

It is possible to have a commodity market, even with a vast number
of different possiblities. The reason is that if you overprice your
specialized part, the buyer switches to a competitor's cheaper
part. As I have mentioned before, this can be done with DSPs
easier than TI claims, as almost all coding is done in C.
