CC, There are two other things. First, the Fed has been buying bonds and in effect monetizing the debt. Second - with the bond vigilantes busy in Europe - we are still the best house in a lousy neighborhood.

jeff gundlach got the bond market right on the nose, and gross and that big, big bs'er el-erian simply got the us treasuries wrong. gross/el-erian dance around on tv now acting like they got better deals in other bond markets, but notice they don't say what they are or were. gross/el-erian act just like stock jocks who make wrong market calls at turns, and just cannot say "i was wrong."

i suppose if confidence in bonds is lost, bond vigilantes, whoever they may be, will all run into gold as they sell and short bonds. the situation that may drive such action may never happen.

commandercricket, let me be a bit more specific on my el-erian bs'er attribute in my previous reply to this post you did. when el-erian is asked a question requiring an opinion or an answer, many times he won't give an opinion or an answer. he goes back to some basic reminders or basic principles and crafts a story that recasts the information in question into an analysis of the positives and the negatives of the information -- but no answer of value. he is mostly a waste of time unless he actually can give a sparse, direct answer, or one likes the banter between joe kernen and him about the jets or mets.
