But Don, I pay to go diving - out of my own money .... I don't get government grants to pay me a nice salary, first class air fares to exotic locations, with hotels, research assistants, boatmen and all other expenses paid, like the people you mention.... Of course if their results came back "not statistically significant" then all that funding will dry up, there are no repeat trips to "confirm" the original results and it's back to a colder and less exotic ivory tower with a much lower academic standing. Of course they can find AWG causes coral bleaching even if it has never caused any actual warming of anything. (The science on that basic requirement is "settled" and must never be questioned). If necessary AWG can be found to correlate with outbreaks of athlete's foot, mental illness, bad breath and the failure of your football team to win this year; with sufficient government funding.
