It is partly what's driving the deficit...tax cuts are the other...drop in revenue due to economic downturn is the third...

All are factors, the increase in defense spending is another important factor, but the increase in social spending (esp. but not only entitlements) is the biggest factor over any period leading up to know that's longer than just a few years, and will be the largest factor going forward, unless perhaps no serious effort is made to restrain deficits (which could in some scenarios make the interest on the debt the largest factor).
