Goldman Sachs Positive on Apple (AAPL) iCloud, Sees iPad Targets As "Very Achievable"
9:49 am ET 06/07/2011 - StreetInsider

Goldman Sachs reiterated their Conviction Buy List rating and $470 price target on Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) following WWDC Monday.

Goldman noted that Apple disclosed that is has sold more than 25 million iPads to date, which leaves about 2.5 million iPads left to sell to reach their forecast of 8.1 million units for the June quarter. This is a number Goldman said is "very achievable."

Apple's iCloud offering is a major step forward for the iOS platform, Goldman's analyst said.

"Apple s cloud introduction and iOS 5 refresh effectively eliminate the need for a PC or Mac hub for iOS devices. We believe this substantially enhances the value of the platform, increases barriers to entry for all iOS devices, and makes it easier for users to purchase and manage multiple iOS products. Most important, we believe that Apple s cloud offerings require cutting-edge compute infrastructure and a tightly integrated platform, which few companies will be able to fully replicate."

Nice time to be an Apple shareholder, IMO i agree, and also, today at least, a good time for longs to tank up IMHO.

As has happened before, there's a lag in stock price when big tech improvements involve only software. Last example was when the developer model for iPhone apps was announced.

All only IMHO of course, but this might be a way for enterprise to get involved in AAPL's model, leading to the only real way for real growth in the stock, now that the indvidual-user model has been priced in for sometime IMHO.

> The market doesn't get it.

I didn't think they would.

From what I've seen, if I understand it correctly, I think their strategy is pretty brilliant. It's no surprise to me that people are overlooking the subtlety their cloud strategy.

It's a superior cloud strategy for small business and consumers, as the devices are still the main file holders, so it's completely transparent and no one will even have to think about it. This wouldn't work with Salesforce or Netsuite as they are built for large organizations.

I think that's a pretty big difference. They are concentrating on automating all the crappy sys admin stuff you'll still have to do if you own wintel/android. I think they've laid the groundwork for the next generation of devices. They are offering it all for really cheap.

Apple's strategy is to sell the software and cloud cheap and make money on the hardware. Almost the exact opposite of the windows world.

When they introduce the next generation of machines they will fly. These things are going to be post Star Trek.
