> ... If all the major deals are cut, there is not much the new CEO can do. In that instance, who would want the job? If he/she can't call the mojor shots going forward, he/she has all the responsibility (blame) and none of the authority. That, by definition, is a lousy deal. ...

Taking the CEO position of any existing company is somewhat analogous to mounting a wild bronc in mid buck. There is no free lunch. But, for all the responsibility there's a few perks and alotta cash!

It would not bode well to have the CEO announcement uncorked without all the fuss and excitement of a champaign celebration. Perhaps there will be more 'NEWS' released concurrently to juice it up. Will there not also be messages of praise and platitudes... "sholder to the wheel! nose to the grindstone!" If the new CEO is a former IBM exec. then the message might be "to expand our interindustry cooperation to enlarge the customer base by meeting the future needs of computer users within corporate America with the right solutions at the right time."

Point being: The other team HAD us on our own ten. It LOOKED like the game was over until last years favorite quarterback stepped in, stopped the retreat and gained control of the ball through a series of brilliant plays. When the new quarterback takes the field, all he has to do is maintain the momentum and expand the play options. While the defense is confused, hit them with a couple of deep yardage plays along the sidelines. Three scores and the game is tipped in our favor.

Gimmie an 'A'! Well, you know the shtick.

Three scores: Widespread market acceptance of Rhapsody server, OS8, and NC thin clients. The lack of interindustry cooperation is what people have been saying is at the core of Apple's woes. The use of it now, with so many tactical receivers, would be the 'statue of liberty' play in Apple's little playbook! A lot of yardage could be gained very quickly.

It's not halftime yet. The way I see it, this game's still in the first quarter!

Good hunting!
