So much for straight reporting: Tampa Tribune advertising its ‘conservative’ bona fides



The direct mailer from The Tampa Tribune just about eliminates any pretense of straight reporting, advertising the newspaper’s ‘fiscal conservatism.’ The mailer even goes so far as to depict an angry white man on the front of the mailer ( just so there is no question about who the newspaper is trying to attract with its “independent and unpredictable” reporting). Certainly the question the ad asks, “Are you looking for a more conservative view?” is a dig at the more liberal St. Petersburg Times.

***Update***Several trusted reporters in the Tribune’s newsroom have contacted me to discuss, off-the-record, this mailer and to insist, with no uncertainty, how upset the newsroom and the editorial board are with the marketing side of Meida General, who they believe are responsible for this mailer. And by upset, I mean, drag-the-SOB-into-the-middle-of-the-newsroom-and-fire-their-ass upset. Developing…
