I have not looked up the particulars on that model, but we do have some on sale here in the US, the Jetta diesel comes to mind with highway mileage above 40mpg. BMW has a 3 series diesel with excellent mileage and torque on sale also. Honda was working on a diesel a couple years back but they dropped it for our market. Perhaps as the new mileage standards kick in over the next few years we will see more diesel powered cars offered for sale. I do know the Jetta has a couple grand price premium for the diesel model over the gas one, maybe that has been a barrier that is becoming less of one as gas prices rise...
