Steve Goldman: thank you for your response. It's helpful knowledge and advice for me. I am not a trader and have no skills in that arena. I seem now to be making many more buys than I have in the past - the availability of cheap commissions influences me, so I am trying to learn more about these so-called cheap commissions versus the real hidden cost to me. And how I might expand the choices I have when I place a purchase or sell. I'm not concerned about getting trades placed on very busy days (if you've traded in Oct '87, you know you've had the same problems then (and with the same brokerages!) as in Oct '97. I'll live with it next time too.) I just would like to assure myself that when I do buy or sell, I am aware of the costs I am paying.
In crusing SI here, did you find any sites you liked; or do you have any suggestions where I might get some additional education? Thanks, Paul Senior
