"People don't know Perry outside of Texas"

And people inside Texas do know Perry. After twenty years of observation (over ten as governor) I rate Perry a pretty darn good state leader because he didn't screw up anything really big during his tenure.

But, and this is my opinion and yours may vary, in full stature he may reach Bush's bellybutton. He's a good governor but not presidential material.

To provide perspective on my opinion, Obama's stature would have difficulty reaching Perry's kneecaps. Therefore, if Perry ended up being the man I would happily support him, but I don't think he should be the man.

All in all I've been pretty satisfied with Rick Perry. There are only a few things I don't care for. He's pro NAFTA and a little soft on the border. BTW, Perry had a falling out with the Bush family when he criticized Bush's spending when campaigning for Giuliani for president and papa Bush endorsed Kay Bailey Hutchison's bid for governor in 2010.
