I was surprised at the amount of construction in Toronto when I was there earlier in the week on business. It looks like there was a construction crane on every corner. Vancouver was like that before the Olympics. Right now it is still busy but marginal less construction is going on.

I noticed a news story on the TV while I was there and noticed there were some suggestion of a over inflated price in Toronto also, probably in the 15 to 20% range as opposed to Vancouver which might fall 30% or even more.

Talking to the cab driver there seems to be a loss of manufacturing job. He lost his job 2 years ago and now works for $7 less per hour. The HST rate like in BC seems high, but it is all relative. I don't know what the old tax rate was before the HST in Ontario. There it is 13%. Here in BC it is 12%. The amount is less on an issue here as opposed to the broadening tax base. Restaurant used to be GST only for example is not HST. It cost 5 percent more to eat out now. The result is people eat out less.
