Harvey; Suspicions confirmed. He is acting like a monopolistic opportunist, using vast resources to beat a market into submission.

The problem with DOJ, is they have(in the past) operated at a snails pace well after the fact, and all they do is conduct an autopsy. Will they do this with Netscape?, I hope not. The lead in web server apps is harder to overcome, but if the DOJ vaccillates too long, MS will eventually wear(NS) them out financially and win.

The 3 million lines says part of why it is such a sluggard.

Bill

>>>In Bill Gate's OP-Ed piece you find:

At the time, the DOJ was fully aware that we were planning to integrate Internet capabilities into the forthcoming Windows 95 operating system.

Since the August 1995 release of Windows 95 contained 3 million? lines of code devoted to MSN and none to my knowledge devoted to the Internet the use of the word Internet doesn't really fit. I have to guess that this is the first time justice is hearing this too. <<<

He seems to be talking about 1993. when Motif was the premier, almost only, browser, and the outfits like AOL and compuserve mainly had non-tcp/ip dedicated software to access their closed networks.

In 1993 Microsoft was still busy poo-pooing the Internet. The claim that the government approved of the MS Internet turtle-krieg? Laughable. 1993 was too early to have that conversation, especially at Microsoft.
