I credit the decline in new drugs to the management of the companies that develop these drugs. When they develop something like a statin, they put all their resources into developing NEW statins and marketing them as superior to their OLD statins, and take resources from basic research.

They combine two already developed drugs into a NEW drug in one pill.

Thousands of things like this that feed the bottom line and starve the future. GREED.
