Medicare costs are price-controlled. They aren't set by the market, they're set [arbitrarily low] by the federal government with no consideration, whatsoever, given to the cost to provide the service. A pool of funds is set aside which is then allocated to service providers on the basis of RBRVS or DRG.

This bogus and arbitrary setting of fees by fiat results in cost-shifting to private plans -- a total convolution of market forces that otherwise would keep private plan costs lower.

You cannot just arbitrarily dump an additional 20 or 25% of the healthcare system's cost on private insurers and expect no disruption in the microeconomics of health care.

As a big-shot economist he ought to know that. As for you, I don't expect too much.
