You have to ask because I've never defended either man's actions.

Ensign was a cheater and ended up resigning. Good.

Vitter, as I understand it, did his cheating a decade or more ago, didn't get caught at the time, but sometime within the past decade came clean to his wife and they quietly healed their marriage. His catting around with prostitutes came to public light a decade after the fact when a madam's customer list from the '90's came to light. Assuming its all in the past and he's fixed his marriage, I'm okay with him letting sleeping matters lie. No, that doesn't make it okay.
